Laser Safety

This page contains some very important information regarding laser safety

Lasers work by using coherent light which has very different properties to standard lighting effects. This is what makes lasers one of the most beautiful forms of light, but also one of the most dangerous light sources when not used with the proper cautions.

Legal Obligations
There are no specific laws on the use of lasers for displays, but the venue and operator/installer have legal duties to assess the risks the laser presents and ensure the safety of the people present, under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1992. The HSG 95 laser guidance document is a good starting place to find out what is and is not appropriate.

Risk Assessment
Laser Hire London UK shall provide the laser equipment and shall perform a full risk assessment at the planning stage of the display. Laser Hire London shall then document this along with sketched plans specific to the venue. Laser Hire London will inform the Local Authority and all other relevant authorities that are involved in the making the event/display possible. All assessments that Laser Hire London UK perform are required in accordance with the HSG 95 Laser Guidance Document.

Compliant Equipment
It is essential that the supplier’s laser equipment is constructed to the manufacturing requirements of the IEC/EN Laser Safety Standard. The Safety Standard sets a minimum level of features the equipment must have to ensure that basic safety requirements are satisfied.

Insurance
Many venues require that all contractors carrying out work or providing services have Public Liability Insurance. Laser Hire London UK have in place full Public Liability Insurance to cover every venue and event that is attended and performed at.
