Legal Obligations

There are no specific laws on the use of lasers for displays, but the venue and operator/installer have legal duties to assess the risks a laser will present and ensure that the safety of the audience and staff, under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 and Management of Health & Safety at Work Regulations 1992. The “Safety of Display Lasers” produced by PLASA is the document that is the guidelines for the use of lasers within the display and entertainments industries.

Compliant Equipment

It is essential that the laser equipment is constructed to the manufacturing requirements of the IEC/EN Laser Safety Standard. The Safety Standard sets a minimum level of features the equipment must have to ensure that basic safety requirements are satisfied and no risk of danger is present.

Insurance & Public Liability

All venues require that all contractors carrying out work or providing services have Public Liability Insurance. Laser Hire London have in place full Public Liability Insurance to cover every venue and event that is attended and performed at.
